Shadow lifting with Fujifilm and Olympus RAW files

When the Fujifilm RAW files (*.RAF) from their X-Trans sensor first appeared, there were some issues for working with these files with some RAW developers/editors. This photo essay will try to look into how different developers work with a RAF file, plus whether the differences in shadow quality are significant.  The Fuji camera is the X-T20 with 18-55 kit lens.  The Olympus is the older E-M5 with the Panasonic 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 zoom.  In all cases the Fuji image is on the left and the Oly on the right side.  Click on an image for a enlarged view

The first step was to simply match up the brightness. The editors normally supplied for the cameras were used at this point. Which is SilkyPix for the Fuji and Viewer3 for the Oly. This still leaves subtle differences in tones.
